The joints on tie rods are subject to wear, which mostly starts with a torn cuff. Once the fat has been washed out of the axial joint or tie rod head, the ball joint is excluding within a few 1000 kilometers. At the latest at the TÜV, the defective rubber cuffs or joint heads are objected to. Because the change of the tie rod always requires a new chassis measurement with setting the preliminary track, it is recommended to swap the tie rod completely depending on the condition. These tie rods are an optimized design in the "turbo design". This is characterized by the play -free ball joint, also called axial joint, on the inside of the tie rod. The Carrera models on the 911 G model and 964 had a joint fork with rubber socket here. Although this ensures more comfort, it is less directly in the steering behavior. The 930 Turbo and the later 993 Carrera/Turbo models have a play -free axial joint as standard.
